This Body was formed in 2015 as a platform for the near-complete overlap in interests and talents of Sara Roer and Diane Tomasi. The duo decided to combine efforts that were focused in many of the same areas: Thai Massage, Aerial and Acrobatics, Production and Performance. Together Sara and Diane have produced shows entitled 'The Struggle in US' as a response to the emotions surrounding the election, 'The End of the World' as a comedic performance response to Global Warming. They also run Thai massage clinics to help reach people who may not be able to afford body wellness otherwise. In 2018, the company expanded to include Nadia Hannan and Alessia Palanti to form the movement collective we are calling Gravity. Gravity was founded with the mission of providing choreographers the opportunities and resources to generate, set, and reset works. The collective’s democratic structure was established to relieve some of the burdens of creating work in New York City, including access to dancers and expenses. Members draw from various movement backgrounds, including modern and contemporary dance, gymnastics, acrobatics, aerial and partner-work. Gravity is invested in producing work that interrogates the assumptions that injure us socially, including heteronormativity, racism, and greed. The movement is a method to both navigate existing systems of meaning and to create new ones. Since OUR bodies do so much and we want to encourage others to LIVE in their bodies too we decided to call our company 'This Body.' This Body Restores, Flies, Moves and Creates.
